Welcome to the “Teacher Bios” section. We’ve got a pretty incredible pool of talent here at Movie FX. Most of our teachers split their time between working on films and teaching at the local makeup and effects schools in the Burbank and Hollywood areas of Los Angeles.

The reason we use many teachers instead just one (besides shoot scheduling issues), is that each of these guys has a specialty. A prop maker is not going to be able to help you with makeup effects and a modelmaker is not going to teach you how to make dental prosthetics like fangs. Plus, what we’re really teaching you is technique, and every teachers uses different techniques. If you learn how to make an apply a gelatin bullethole, you can use that same technique to make scars, or a swollen eye. As more and more independent filmmakers are starting to use our videos, we’ve been getting requests for “realistic” makeups…burns, scars, death. But have no fear, we still love zombies and vampires so we’ll incorporate both into upcoming Master Class Volumes.
